About
This is my first blog of any kind and I have to admit, it seems a bit odd writing about myself. Oh well, I guess the about page is somewhat obligatory, so here it goes…
I’ve been working in the IT world for about 13 years. I started out as Progress programmer and have been working with MS development tools for about ten. I’ve also done some Unix, Java, C/C++ development along the way. I’ve had the opportunity to work on a variety of interesting projects over the years. They’ve varied from GPS vehicle tracking applications to conservation land management systems. Most recently, I’ve been focusing mainly on SharePoint.
Along the way, I decided to take a break from IT and try something completely different. So, I decided to try my hand as a career firefighter. I had been a volunteer firefighter for several years and really enjoyed it. So, I left my full-time position and joined a metro Atlanta department. After ten weeks of recruit school, I was riding in the back of a fire engine living every little boy’s dream. I was lucky to work for a busy department with a good crew and we saw quite a bit of action. I worked a 24 hour shift every third day, so also I had time to do some consulting on the side and keep my technical skills fresh. I did that for four years until a little over a year ago when I decided it was time to go back to a “normal” job. I still volunteer and occasionally get to help out the community where I live.
This blog will cover mostly SharePoint topics. I’ve recently been trying to spice up our UI with some judicious use of Silverlight. So, I plan to write some entries on that topic as well. I also plan to throw some fire stuff in, because I love it, but I promise it won’t be much.
